Travel The Most Underrated Cities in the US written by Ali Image Credit: Pexels The United States has some fantastic cities all across this fine country. However, some of them are severely underrated and don’t get enough attention. While these cities are no New York and Washington DC, they are all worth visiting. Portland, Maine Portland, Maine is a very small city when compared to some in other states, but for the state of Maine is considered quite big. It had a population of 66,000 in 2016, and this makes it the 4th least populated city in the US. However, its size is part of its charm and one of the reasons why it shouldn’t be overlooked when booking a vacation. Portland has a long history with the sea, ships and everything related to that lifestyle, and this has lead to a lot of interesting museums and culture throughout the city. If you are a history buff, then there is a lot to learn about Portland and the rest of Maine. Portland also has a booming nightlife, this partly thanks to it having the highest number of restaurants and bars per capita in the US. It has a lot to offer in its own way and is well worth a visit. San Diego, California San Diego is often looked over in favor of Los Angeles and San Francisco, however, it has a lot to offer. Of all the things to do in San Diego, the San Diego Zoo should be high on your list. The zoo has around 3,700 animals across a range of species all of which are housed across 100 acres. However, if animals aren’t your thing then San Diego also has a host of museums to visit including the USS Midway Museum which is a museum comprised partly of the aircraft carrier the USS Midway. If you have any interest in military history, then this will be a must visit. However, for those of you who aren’t into that sort of thing, San Diego has a lot of other museums, art galleries and sights to visit. And finally, there is always the beach where you can relax with a good book and some ice cream. Salt Lake City, Utah Salt Lake City is probably best known for hosting the 2002 Winter Olympics, but it also has a lot of other things to offer. It too has an amazing zoo with a vast array of animals with special attention paid to its aviary and bird species. Salt Lake City sees a lot of theatre troops from Broadway and Off-Broadway, meaning that it has some of the best plays in the country visiting regularly. It is also the host of many different festivals and events, so look up what is happening during your visit as parades and the such are a common occurrence in Salt Lake City. If museums and art are your thing, then you won’t be disappointed as Salt Lake City has them in abundance. For the kids, there is the Discovery Gateway, a museum full of hands-on exhibits that your little ones will love. For adults, there is a lot of choice from the Church History Museum to the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. Salt Lake City has a lot to offer if you give it a chance.
