I love this headline:
Alaska Air pilot’s detour gives passengers stunning view of Mt. Rainier
I’ve traveled a lot in my life and career. I’ve had great experiences and some not so great ones (flying in and out of SFO is such a bittersweet experience – there are always delays but there’s great udon soup to be found and if you get stuck there for five hours, there’s plenty of time to get your nails done. Just saying). I’ve never had a pilot detour out of a holding pattern, but how fun for his passengers!
Lots to be thankful for this past week. There was the whole day of Thanksgiving after all, plus it just happened to fall on one of our two anniversaries this year – the one where we officially got married in the courthouse (we have a second one in December that I count as our “real” wedding, when we got married in front of our dearest friends in our living room. We wore jeans and made vegan wedding cupcakes. My flower girl work a frilly pink dress and combat boots. Much to be thankful for there, as well).
I seem to finally have challah down. Challah has been my go-to holiday bread for the past five years, maybe. This year’s loaf was perfect – crusty and soft. Challah + Umpqua Valley wine = automatic bliss break. Trust me on this one. If you are curious about the recipe for challah and how to make a six strand braid, check out the recipe from The Kitchn And – if you are at all curious about my method for organizing all potential cooking adventures for the holidays, check out my Thanksgiving/Xmas 2018 Pinterest board here.
We have our routines firmly in place for Thanksgiving and the weekend after. I spend Thanksgiving day cooking and then spend Friday putting up the Christmas tree and decorating. My tree is starting to trend toward ocean – my favorite ornament from last year is a clip on seagull, which gets pride of place at the very top.
One last thing for the bliss break this week. I’ve had some great traffic on the blog here the past few weeks. It makes me so happy to see that my sweet vermouth martini is so popular! It just makes me happy to know that many someones out there are searching for a sweet vermouth martini and stumbling on Fix Me a Little Lunch.
Did you see the featured image this post? I have a favorite breakfast spot here on the coast that serves the best eggs Benedict! After several days of turkey and leftovers for every meal, this was such a welcome break!
